Do not compare vacancies based only on the hourly rate. Request a written calculation of base pay, night and public holiday supplements, overtime, bonuses, accommodation, transport, workwear and other deductions. Ask about the minimum guaranteed hours, the date of the first payment, the possibility of an advance and payment for downtime.

Schedule and physical working conditions

Day, night and rotating shifts of 8 or 12 hours are common, but the exact schedule is determined by the contract and the company’s work plan. Before applying, ask whether the job involves standing for long periods, lifting loads, a fast work pace, repetitive movements, low temperatures, contact with chemicals or night shifts.

The employer must provide safety training and the necessary protective equipment. Ask who pays for the medical examination, protective clothing and footwear. Pregnant candidates or employees should inform a competent employer representative in advance about medical restrictions and request information about safe working conditions in accordance with the law and the contract.

Is Polish required

For some packing, manufacturing, cleaning and warehouse jobs, understanding basic instructions is sufficient. Knowledge of Polish expands the choice of positions and makes training and communication with a supervisor easier. In retail, healthcare, care work, hotels and customer-facing roles, the employer may require a certain level of Polish.

Contract and social security

Employment may be arranged through an umowa o pracę employment contract or a civil-law contract, such as umowa zlecenie. These contracts differ in terms of working time, annual leave, sick leave, contributions and employee protection. Ask the employer to specify the contract type and provide its text before you travel.

Check the employer’s legal name, the location and nature of the work, the pay rate, schedule, start date, duration, probation period, deductions and termination conditions. Ask whether ZUS contributions are paid and how health insurance, sick leave and paid annual leave are arranged. Do not sign a document if you do not understand its contents.

The required documents depend on citizenship, legal status, occupation and the grounds for staying in Poland.
